PRINTS OF WHALES 2010 WINNERS!

The judging panel was astounded by the number of both whale and wildlife photographs submitted. Deciding on the outright winners was a mammoth task.

WINNER Denise Wilson #B18

‘Whales Watching’ category focused on photographs of whales in the waters of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Denise Wilson - Back Bend #B18 was awarded the major prize of $1000.00 cash, which was proudly sponsored by the SA Whale Centre.

WINNER DLindy Downing - Little Egret #A11

‘Winter Wildlife’ category focused on photographs that captured the essence of wildlife on the Fleurieu Peninsula

Lindy Downing - Little Egret #A11 was awarded the major prize of $1000.00 cash which was proudly sponsored by Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism.

WINNER Elizabeth Steele-Collins - Peek-A-Boo! #A6

The People’s Choice Award saw the general public vote for their favourite image. Votes, which came from across the globe, were tallied.

Elizabeth Steele-Collins - Peek-A-Boo! #A6 was announced as the winner and awarded a prize basket worth $500.

WINNER Nabil Humphreys - Seagull at the Bluff #A21

The Junior Photographer Award saw the general public vote for their favourite image submitted by a junior 16yrs or under.

The talented prize winners were not the only ones to benefit from the competition. Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism and the South Australian Whale Centre will, as part of the terms of entry, be able to utilise the images to promote whale watching and wildlife within the region.

The South Australian Museum’s Mammal Department is also a ‘winner’. They will be provided with many images of whales (made up from additional photographs collected by the entrants throughout the season).

The Museum will eventually use the images to identify and name each individual whale, recording their visitation and calving rate each season.

Awards were presented to the winners on 9th December, 2010.
