The South Australian Museum’s Mammal Department is also a ‘winner’. They will be provided with more than 2,000 images of whales (made up from additional photographs collected by the entrants throughout the season).

The Museum will eventually use the images to identify and name each individual whale, recording their visitation and calving rate each season.

Natalie Perkins, Coordinator of the South Australian Whale Centre, closed the proceedings by thanking the event sponsors, and announcing “The City of Victor Harbor has already approved the inclusion of the competition on the 2010 calendar of events.”

She went on to say that planning for the 2010 competition had already commenced. “We have already been discussing adding more category options with our major sponsor Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism and as such anticipate the 2010 competition will attract more attention from both participants and nature lovers alike.”
